CoinMarketCap is the most referenced website for easily tracking cryptocurrency prices. The main purpose of CoinMarketCap is to make monitoring cryptocurrency prices simple and efficient, providing both newcomers to the crypto world and long-time participants with unbiased, high-quality, and accurate information to make their own decisions about what, when, and how much to buy. You should be aware, however, that the CoinMarketCap website is not intended for buying or selling cryptocurrencies, yet it still features more than 19,000 different cryptocurrencies. Those looking for a wide selection of assets may appreciate what this website has to offer. Here are some of the most important cryptocurrencies currently available:
- Bitcoin (BTC);
- Dogecoin (DOGE);
- Ethereum (ETH);
- Polkadot (DOT);
- Shiba Inu (SHIB);
- XRP (XRP).
CoinMarketCap, founded in May 2013 by Brandon Chez, quickly grew to become the most trusted source from the perspective of crypto users and enthusiasts, institutions, and media. The United States government also uses data from CoinMarketCap for various research and reports.
In April 2020, CoinMarketCap was acquired by Binance Capital Management. Binance is the largest cryptocurrency exchange by daily trading volume. With the acquisition, CoinMarketCap planned to leverage the extensive resources of its parent company to gain deeper insights into projects, reduce information asymmetry in the crypto industry, and provide higher-quality data to its massive user base from around the world.
CoinMarketCap provides accurate, timely, and unbiased information. Since the acquisition by Binance in early 2020, CoinMarketCap has continued to operate independently from its parent company. As a result, users consider CoinMarketCap to be the most trusted and accurate source of cryptocurrency data in the world.

Registration on the CoinMarketCap website
You do not need to register to browse cryptocurrencies, various articles, watch videos, and so on. However, if you want to select cryptocurrencies that are currently relevant to you, participate in various Airdrop, Diamond rewards, and Learn&Earn programs, you will need your own account. The easiest way to do this is to first open their website on a computer or mobile phone, then enter your email address and the password you want. If you were invited to register by a friend, there is an option to enter a “Referral ID”, which can help you collect CoinMarketCap diamonds, which will be discussed later. If you also want to receive daily news from the crypto world and updates from the website, you can select the option “Get a daily dose of CoinMarketCap, right to your inbox”.
What if you already have accounts on crypto exchanges? Instead of creating a completely new account, you can connect directly with your Binance ID through their new Exchange Login program. All you need to do is go to their login page and select “Continue with Binance” to create your linked account.
In the future, CoinMarketCap will continue to expand the Exchange Login program, with each eligible crypto exchange allowing its users to log in using the crypto exchange where they already have an account.

CoinMarketCap mobile application
CoinMarketCap also has an app available for all smartphones running iOS and Android operating systems. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one through your mobile phone as well, and if you already have one, you can simply log in by tapping “Log in”. Thanks to the partnership with the Binance crypto exchange, you also have the option to log in directly via “Continue with Binance”, as described above.
The great thing about this app is that you have a huge range of personalization options. Whether you use CoinMarketCap on a computer or via mobile phone, your data is always synchronized, so you only need one account for all their services. The app also contains no advertisements, only the crypto content that interests you. Here are a few more useful features offered by the CoinMarketCap app:
- Watchlist: this will keep you up to date with all your favorite coins and tokens. Your watchlist will sync between your mobile app and computer, so you will never miss any changes in the crypto market. You have the option to set up several different watchlists, and you can also share them with friends.
- Portfolio: this feature is designed to be suitable for both professional investors and complete beginners. You can track statistics of selected crypto coins and tokens, charts, and set SL and TP (“stop loss” and “take profit”) for the most successful trading possible.
- Compare crypto: using this feature, you can very easily compare two crypto coins or tokens against each other based on their price, market cap, and volume at a specific time.
- Currency converter: on the mobile app you will also have the option to use a converter between crypto coins and tokens with 93 different fiat currencies.
With the “Discover” option, you will be able to stay up to date with all the latest trends in the crypto industry. The app will show you news that best matches your interests, so you will never miss anything.
Homepage
As soon as you open the homepage of the website, you will find that it was designed to work very simply. The most basic thing you can do on CoinMarketCap is to view charts of various cryptocurrencies by simply clicking on the desired cryptocurrency, where you are shown practically everything you need to know about it. You will notice that even on the homepage you can see multiple data points about a specific cryptocurrency, and when you click on it, you will see the market capitalization, price, 1-day, 7-day, 1-month, 3-month, yearly charts, as well as charts from the inception of the crypto asset. They will also offer you various current articles on the topic.
One of the most important tabs on CMC (CoinMarketCap) coin detail pages is the “Market pairs” tab. Each market pair has its own confidence indicator, which will help you in choosing the appropriate exchange where you will later trade cryptocurrencies. This confidence rating reflects the liquidity of a particular exchange. The greater the liquidity, the easier it will be to trade cryptocurrencies.
Crypto Exchanges
A cryptocurrency exchange is a digital marketplace that enables buyers and sellers to trade cryptocurrencies or other digital assets for FIAT money or other cryptocurrencies. The main role of an exchange is to act as an intermediary between the buyer and the seller. There are two different types of cryptocurrency exchanges:
- centralized – these represent the most common way of trading cryptocurrencies, involving an exchange that acts as an intermediary to facilitate transactions between parties. These include Binance, Coinbase Exchange, Kraken…
- decentralized (DEX) – these enable peer-to-peer trading of cryptocurrencies and are operated without a central authority.
In the “Exchanges” tab, you will notice that CoinMarketCap ranks and rates crypto exchanges based on traffic, liquidity, trading volume, and confidence in the legitimacy of reported trading volume. Currently, you can track more than 300 different crypto exchanges with a combined 24-hour volume of more than 160 billion US dollars. Among them are the ones most familiar to us:
- Binance;
- FTX;
- Coinbase Exchange;
- Kraken;
- KuCoin;
- Gate.io…
Watchlist
A watchlist is a website feature where users can create their own lists of cryptocurrencies or crypto exchanges to follow. CoinMarketCap also has a watchlist feature linked directly to your account, which allows you to directly track a selected cryptocurrency by clicking the star icon next to it. They also have a notifications feature, where you can set CoinMarketCap to notify you in the event that your selected crypto coin or token falls below a certain price.

Learn&Earn
Although you cannot buy or sell cryptocurrencies on CoinMarketCap, it does offer the option to earn some for free in the “Learn&Earn” section. The first requirement you must meet if you want to earn free cryptocurrencies is that you have a registered account on their website. The second requirement is a KYC-verified (“Know your customer” or “Know your client”) account on the Binance crypto exchange. Your account must be verified before you complete the quiz, otherwise they cannot guarantee the distribution of tokens to you.
The Learn&Earn section on CoinMarketCap works in a fairly similar way to Coinbase Earn. We need to watch certain videos, then complete a quiz and receive crypto coins.
The biggest difference between CoinMarketCap and Coinbase Earn is that the quizzes on this website are longer and that we have to wait a bit longer for the cryptocurrencies. We receive them after the campaign ends, which usually lasts about a month.
Please note that this program operates on a “first come, first served” basis. This means that candidates will only receive tokens until a predetermined distribution amount has been given out.
CoinMarketCap diamonds
CoinMarketCap has its own “diamonds,” or loyalty reward points, that their users can earn by completing various tasks on the CoinMarketCap website.
If you want to start collecting CoinMarketCap diamonds, you need to have an account on CoinMarketCap. You can start earning diamonds by visiting CoinMarketCap every day. Once you have collected a sufficient number of these diamonds, you will be able to spend them in their rewards store, where you can obtain free NFTs, mystery boxes, their merchandise, and more.
CoinMarketCap events
All crypto exchanges organize a wide variety of events and promotions. Crypto exchanges will often use the CoinMarketCap events section for even better promotion, to introduce their services to potential users or to show existing users a new feature or aspect of their website. This is yet another way in which you can earn some new cryptocurrencies or participate in a certain airdrop by completing simple tasks, such as registering on a crypto exchange or depositing a certain amount of FIAT money.
Alexandria
Since its inception, CoinMarketCap has had the goal of gathering all data about the cryptocurrency space and placing it on one website, so that anyone, anywhere can learn more about any crypto token or coin they are interested in. Alexandria is the CMC encyclopedia, where you can find everything you want to know about how the website works, from explanations of cryptocurrency trading to definitions of terms. With this section, they have enabled beginners to quickly and easily educate themselves for free.
NFTs on CoinMarketCap
The acronym NFT stands for non-fungible token. Essentially, these tokens allow us to transfer ownership of digital property, from images and videos to weapons in video games. The transfer of NFTs takes place via blockchain, similar to buying, sending, and selling cryptocurrencies, but there is a difference. Cryptocurrencies are interchangeable with one another — every Bitcoin is the same as another. Each NFT, however, is linked to a specific piece of artwork that is unique and non-fungible.
CoinMarketCap has introduced a new way of verifying NFT data on their website. If you have ever wondered which NFT collections are the most expensive, how many times each NFT has been sold, or how many CryptoPunks are actually for sale, you can now see this data on the CoinMarketCap website. Their “NFT” section is new and user-focused, and it also clearly displays the total market capitalization of all NFT collections and the total sales volume of various NFT projects. You can adjust this based on a specific time period; for example, the last 24 hours, the last week, the last month, and so on.
You will also see upcoming events and projects, where you will be able to access all the data about a specific NFT project, including their Twitter profile, Discord group, and website. Alongside a brief description of a particular project, you will also see the price or approximate price and the release date of the NFTs. Although you cannot sell or buy cryptocurrencies on the CoinMarketCap website, it is a very useful and practical website, suitable for both beginners and professional cryptocurrency traders. On their website, you will easily be able to find your way around and look up current data on a specific cryptocurrency or token, read current articles, or even earn some free cryptocurrencies and CMC diamonds to redeem for NFTs or their merchandise.
