How to Use Rabby Wallet

Imagine you have a few hundred euros in Bitcoin or Ethereum on a crypto exchange, but you have no idea how to go any further. You don’t know how to connect to the apps where your money actually starts working for you. You don’t know how to store crypto safely without having it “trapped” on a single platform.

That’s exactly why you need a wallet today. Not a physical leather wallet – but a crypto wallet, which is your personal entry point into the whole world of decentralized finance, or DeFi for short (Decentralized Finance – financial services that work without a bank, directly through the blockchain).

In this article, I’ll show you exactly that: what Rabby Wallet is, how to install it step by step, how to use it, and how to use it to lay the foundation for earning with crypto.

If you’re in a hurry after reading this article and want to see the entire strategy for earning with crypto in one place, you can download my free crypto e-book.

What is Rabby Wallet and why do I recommend it to beginners?

Rabby Wallet is a free, self-custodial crypto wallet built specifically for Ethereum and all so-called EVM chains (EVM = Ethereum Virtual Machine – the technology that powers Ethereum and dozens of other blockchains, such as Arbitrum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Base, Optimism, and similar).

The word “self-custodial” (independent, with no intermediary) is key here. When you keep your crypto on an exchange (for example Binance, Kraken, or Bitget), technically it isn’t entirely “yours” – the exchange holds it, and you trust them. But once you transfer it to a wallet like Rabby, you have complete control. Nobody can freeze your account, and nobody can block your access. With that control comes responsibility, too – more on that in the security section.

Rabby was built by the DeBank team, which has been known for years for building tools for tracking crypto assets. This means that Rabby isn’t a “no-name” project, but a product of a company that knows well what DeFi users actually need.

Why Rabby and not some other wallet?

The most widespread alternative is MetaMask – and if you’ve ever tried using MetaMask, you know that with every new blockchain it asks whether you want to add the network manually (RPC address, chain ID, currency symbol …). For a beginner, this is tiresome and confusing.

Rabby eliminates this completely – when you visit an app, it automatically recognizes which blockchain the app runs on and switches to it without any extra pop-ups. You simply connect your wallet and start using the app.

On top of that, Rabby offers something that, for me as someone who has followed the crypto market for years, is worth the most: before every transaction, it simulates what will actually happen – which tokens will leave your wallet and which will come into it – before you confirm anything. This means you see the truth before you press “confirm,” not only after it’s too late.

In short, the main advantages of Rabby Wallet:

  • Automatic chain switching – no manually adding networks.
  • Transaction simulation before signing – you see what will happen before you confirm.
  • Risky contract detection – Rabby warns you if the site you’re connecting to might be a scam.
  • Free to use – the wallet itself costs you nothing, you only pay the network fee (the so-called gas fee – more on that below).
  • Hardware wallet support (Ledger, Trezor, and similar) – for those who want an extra level of security.
  • Built-in crypto swap – you can swap one cryptocurrency for another directly in the wallet.

If you want to understand how I connect these basics into a concrete monthly income, I recommend taking a bit of time to read my crypto e-book – in it, I explain the whole journey, from your first purchase to passive income.

Rabby Wallet or MetaMask – which one should you choose?

Almost everyone who’s just starting out asks me this question. The answer is simple: for working on Ethereum and EVM chains, Rabby is currently the safer and more transparent choice, mainly because of transaction simulation.

One thing you need to know: Rabby does not support Solana, Bitcoin, or any other non-EVM chain – it’s intended exclusively for Ethereum and the EVM world. So if you also trade on Solana, you’ll need another wallet in addition to Rabby (for example Phantom). For everything happening on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, and similar chains, though, Rabby is in my experience one of the best tools currently available.

Good news: if you already have MetaMask and don’t want to lose your existing addresses, you can simply import your seed phrase (I’ll explain it below) into Rabby and manage the same wallets, without moving any funds.

Step 1: Installing Rabby Wallet

Installation is easy and takes less than 5 minutes.

  1. Go to the official website rabby.io (always double-check that the address is spelled correctly – you’ll find more about phishing sites that imitate real wallets in the security section).
  2. Click “Download” and choose your browser (Chrome, Brave, or Edge).
  3. Add the extension to your browser – just like you would install any other add-on.
  4. Once the installation is finished, the Rabby icon appears in the upper right corner of your browser.

Important: download the wallet only from the official website. Fake extensions that look identical are one of the most common ways people lose their crypto.

Step 2: Creating a New Wallet or Importing an Existing One

When you open Rabby for the first time, it asks whether you want to:

  • Create a new wallet (if you’re just getting started with crypto), or
  • Import an existing wallet (if you already have a seed phrase from MetaMask or another wallet).

What a Seed Phrase Is and Why It’s the Most Important Thing in This Article

A seed phrase (also called a “recovery phrase” or “mnemonic phrase”) is a sequence of 12 or 24 random words that serves as the master key to all your funds. Anyone who has this sequence of words has full access to your wallet – no matter where in the world they are.

When you create a new wallet, Rabby shows you this sequence of words. Your job:

  1. Write them down by hand on paper – never take a photo of them, save them on your phone, send them by email, or enter them into any online form.
  2. Store the paper in a safe place (for example, in a safe), separate from your computer.
  3. Never tell anyone these words. No legitimate party will ever ask you for them – not Rabby support, not an exchange, not anyone else.

If you lose your seed phrase and also lose access to the device where the wallet is installed, there is no way to regain access to your funds. No “support” team can help you – that’s the price of being the one and only owner of your money.

Step 3: Getting to Know the Rabby Wallet Interface

Once the wallet is created, you land on the main screen. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Portfolio – an overview of all your assets across all chains, in one place. You don’t have to check each chain manually.
  • Transaction history – a list of all past transfers and interactions.
  • Button for connecting to apps – when you visit a DeFi app (also called a DApp – a decentralized application that runs on a blockchain rather than on a single server), Rabby offers to connect to your wallet.
  • Swap – a built-in feature for directly swapping one cryptocurrency for another, without leaving the wallet.

What does “gas fee” mean? It’s the fee you pay the network (Ethereum, for example) to process your transaction. It isn’t a Rabby fee – Rabby is free to use – but the cost of the blockchain itself. Before every transaction, Rabby shows you an estimate of this cost, so you never pay “blindly.”

Step 4: The Security Features That Made Me Choose Rabby

In my opinion, this section is the most important in the entire article, because this is exactly where most beginners lose money – not because of a price drop, but because of a wrongly confirmed transaction.

Transaction Simulation

Before you confirm anything – a purchase, a sale, a swap, or granting an app access – Rabby shows you in advance exactly what will happen: which tokens will leave your wallet and what you’ll get back. If the numbers don’t match what you expected, you simply don’t confirm. This is something most other wallets don’t offer in such a clear way.

Risk Scanning

Rabby checks in the background the smart contract (smart contract – a program that automatically executes agreed-upon rules on a blockchain, without an intermediary) you want to connect to. If it’s a fraudulent contract, a request for unlimited access to your funds, or a suspicious app, Rabby warns you with a clear red sign before you sign anything.

Managing Approvals

The first time you use a DeFi app, it will often ask you for an approval – permission for the contract to access a certain cryptocurrency in your wallet so it can carry out a swap or a deposit. The problem is that many people grant this approval for an unlimited amount, which means the contract could theoretically access all of that cryptocurrency in your wallet later on.

Rabby lets you review and revoke any access you no longer need in the approvals section at any time. I recommend checking this at least once a month – it’s one of the most commonly overlooked security steps in the entire crypto world.

Connecting a Hardware Wallet

For more serious amounts, I recommend connecting Rabby to a hardware wallet – a physical device (such as a Ledger) that keeps your private keys completely offline (known as “cold storage”). Even if your computer is infected with a virus, an attacker can’t confirm a transaction without physical access to the device. In this case, Rabby acts as a transparent interface, while the actual signing takes place on the hardware device.

Step 5: Your First App Connection and First Swap

Now for the practical part – how to actually use Rabby.

  1. Visit the DeFi app you want to use (for example, an exchange for swapping cryptocurrencies).
  2. Click “Connect Wallet” and select Rabby.
  3. Confirm the connection in the Rabby pop-up window.
  4. When you want to make a swap, the app prepares the transaction – Rabby simulates it and shows you what you’ll receive.
  5. If everything looks good, you confirm the transaction with a single click.

Rabby also has a built-in swap feature that automatically compares prices across multiple liquidity providers and finds you the best rate – without you having to check each one individually.

Step 6: How I Use Rabby to Actually Earn with Crypto

A wallet doesn’t “earn” you money by itself – but it is the key that opens the door to strategies you can’t carry out on a regular exchange at all. Here are three paths that I most often recommend to beginners:

1. Liquid Staking

Instead of letting your Ethereum just “sit” in your wallet, you can deposit it through a DeFi app into liquid staking (protocols such as Lido) – this means your ETH helps validate transactions on the network and you receive a reward in return, while also getting a substitute token that you can keep using in other DeFi apps. All of this happens through Rabby, which simulates every step for you.

2. Crypto Lending

Through protocols such as Aave, you can “lend” your cryptocurrency to the network and receive interest in return – similar to a bank savings account, except that the interest rate is often significantly higher and is paid out automatically, with no intermediary. Rabby shows you at every step how much is entering and leaving your wallet.

3. Regularly Investing Smaller Amounts (DCA)

Instead of trying to guess the “right moment” to buy, you can invest the same small amount every month. This approach is called DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) and it eliminates the stress associated with price swings, since you don’t have to look for the perfect moment to buy. Rabby lets you make these kinds of regular purchases and swaps directly from your own wallet, without being tied to a single exchange.

I explain more strategies for earning with crypto in detail, step by step, in my free crypto e-book. If you’re serious about earning with crypto, this is the next step I recommend first.

Security Tips You Need to Follow from Day One

Because this is a self-custody wallet, all the responsibility is on you. Here are five rules that I never break:

  1. Never enter your seed phrase into any online form. Rabby (and no legitimate wallet) will ever ask for it via email, chat, or support.
  2. Always check the website address before connecting your wallet. Fake sites that look exactly like the real ones are among the most common ways theft happens.
  3. Check your approvals regularly and revoke the ones you no longer need.
  4. Use a hardware wallet for larger sums, not just a browser extension.
  5. Never sign a transaction you don’t understand. If the simulation shows something you don’t expect – cancel. It’s always better to lose a few minutes than your funds.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rabby Wallet

Is Rabby Wallet free? Yes. Installing and using the wallet is completely free. You only pay the network fee (gas fee) for individual transactions, which goes entirely to the network, not to Rabby. The built-in swap feature charges a small fee, which is low compared to many other wallets.

Does Rabby support Bitcoin or Solana? No. Rabby is designed exclusively for Ethereum and EVM chains. For Solana or Bitcoin, you need a separate wallet.

Is Rabby safer than MetaMask? Rabby offers more advanced transaction simulation and detection of risky contracts before you sign, which many users (myself included) consider an important advantage in preventing mistakes. However, no wallet can protect you from revealing your seed phrase yourself.

Can I lose my money if I lose my phone or computer? No, as long as you have your seed phrase stored safely. You can restore your wallet on a new device at any time by entering those words.

Where do I start if I want to turn this into a serious monthly income? I recommend that you first download my free crypto e-book, which gathers all the most important information for earning easily with cryptocurrencies in one place, in Slovenian and without unnecessary theory.

Summary: How to Get Started with Rabby Wallet in 5 Steps

Your action plan:

  1. Install Rabby – from the official website rabby.io, as a browser extension.
  2. Create a new wallet or import an existing one – and write down your seed phrase by hand on paper, in a safe place.
  3. Get to know the interface – the portfolio, transaction history, and the button for connecting to apps.
  4. Connect to one DeFi app and make your first small swap to see how transaction simulation works.
