Remember the feeling when you first open a crypto exchange and don’t even know where to click? In this article, I’ll show you what jup.ag is, how it works, and – most importantly – how you can use it as one of the tools for earning with cryptocurrencies.
If you’re a complete beginner in the world of cryptocurrencies, you’re in the right place.
What exactly is jup.ag?
Jup.ag (official name: Jupiter) is a web tool that operates on the blockchain (a chain of blocks – a digital, publicly accessible ledger where all transactions are recorded) called Solana. Solana is one of the fastest and most affordable networks for cryptocurrencies, which means that transactions on it are fast and cheap compared to some other networks.
Jup.ag is not a classic exchange as you might know it (for example, an application where you log in with an email and password). It’s something different – it’s an aggregator. This term simply means that the tool in the background reviews dozens of smaller exchanges and trading venues on Solana, compares prices, and offers you the best possible exchange rate for swapping one cryptocurrency for another.
Think of it this way: if you were going to buy a plane ticket and visited only one website, you might pay too much. But if you use a price comparison tool that checks ten different providers in a few seconds, you get the best price. Jup.ag does exactly that – just for cryptocurrencies.
Because of this, jup.ag has become one of the most used tools on Solana. It doesn’t trade with its own money – you always remain the owner of your funds, which is extremely important for beginners, and I’ll explain this further.
Why this matters for your cryptocurrency earnings
You might be thinking: “Okay, but why should this interest me?” The answer is simple – the difference in price means a difference in your earnings.
If you buy or sell cryptocurrencies directly on a single platform, you often don’t know if you’re paying a fair price. Small differences in exchange rates and fees might seem negligible, but if you add them up across multiple transactions, you quickly reach an amount you could have kept in your pocket.
Jup.ag solves exactly this problem. Instead of you manually checking ten different venues, the tool does it for you – in a few seconds. This means more money stays with you, and doesn’t go to fees.

What you need before you start
Before we get to the practical part, let’s quickly explain two things you’ll need. Don’t worry – both are free and you can set them up in a few minutes.
1. Crypto wallet
A crypto wallet is not a wallet in the sense you might imagine – it’s not a physical thing with coins. It’s an application (browser extension) that stores your private keys. Think of a private key as a unique code that proves that certain funds on the blockchain are truly yours.
Since jup.ag operates on the Solana network, you need a wallet that supports Solana – the most widespread such wallet is Phantom. Installation takes just a few minutes, and you sign up by freely installing the browser extension.
A key rule you must remember: when you create a wallet, you receive what’s called a seed phrase (a series of words, usually 12 or 24) that acts as the master key to all your funds. Write this phrase on paper and store it in a safe place – never type it on a website, send it by email, or share it with anyone. Whoever has your seed phrase has access to all your money.

2. Some funds in your wallet
To be able to swap anything on jup.ag, you need at least a little SOL cryptocurrency in your wallet (the native cryptocurrency of the Solana network, which you use to pay small transaction fees) and the funds you want to swap (for example, USDC – a stablecoin whose value is tied to the US dollar, or any other cryptocurrency you already have).
If you’re just starting out and don’t have any cryptocurrency yet, I recommend you first read my guide on choosing a crypto wallet and steps to your first purchase – I also explain all this in my free e-book, which you can get here
How to connect your wallet to jup.ag – step by step
Now let’s move to the practical part. The process of connecting your wallet is the same as with most similar tools, so it will be worth understanding for the future as well.
- Open the website jup.ag in a browser where you have your wallet installed (for example, Phantom).
- In the top right corner, look for the wallet connection button.
- Click on it and select the wallet you use.
- Your wallet will ask you to confirm the connection – click “Confirm” or “Connect.”
- The page will refresh and in the top corner you’ll see a shortened version of your wallet address, which means the connection was successful.
Important: connecting your wallet does not mean you’ve given anyone access to your money. It only means that the website can “see” your balance and can prepare transactions, which you must manually confirm in your wallet each time. No one can move your funds without your confirmation.
How to exchange cryptocurrencies on jup.ag – a practical example
Now that your wallet is connected, let’s see what an actual exchange (called a swap in English) of one cryptocurrency for another looks like.
- On the main screen you’ll see two fields – the top field labeled “Sell” and the bottom field labeled “Buy.”
- In the top field, select the cryptocurrency you want to exchange (for example USDC) and enter the amount.
- In the bottom field, select the cryptocurrency you want to receive (for example SOL or any other).
- The system automatically shows you how much you’ll receive, as well as an estimate of the fee and price impact (this is technically called slippage – it’s the difference between the expected price and the actual price, which can occur if the transaction amount is large relative to available liquidity).
- When you’re satisfied with the terms, click the confirmation button, and then confirm the transaction in your wallet.
- Within a few seconds, the new funds will be visible in your wallet.
That’s it. The entire process takes less than a minute, and after you do it once or twice, it will be completely clear to you.
Advanced features that can directly impact your earnings
This is where it gets interesting. Jup.ag doesn’t just offer basic exchanges, but also tools you can use when you want to manage your funds more strategically.
Limit Order
A limit order means that instead of exchanging immediately at the current price, you set the price at which you want to buy or sell, and the system executes the transaction automatically when the market reaches that price. This is useful if, for example, you want to buy a specific cryptocurrency only if it drops to a certain level – you don’t need to watch the charts all day, the system does it for you.
DCA – Dollar-Cost Averaging (gradual investing)
DCA is an acronym for a strategy where instead of investing a lump sum all at once, you divide that amount into smaller, equal portions and invest them at regular intervals (for example, a smaller amount each week instead of everything at once). The advantage of this strategy is that it smooths the impact of price fluctuations (this fluctuation is technically called volatility) – you don’t buy everything at one moment, but gradually, which reduces the risk of buying right at the price peak.
Jup.ag has this feature built in – you can set it so that a certain amount is automatically exchanged every day, week, or month, without having to click manually each time.
I explain this strategy in detail in my free e-book, along with examples of how I personally allocate investments – you can find it here
Staking – passive income
The word staking means that you “lock” your funds in the network and help the network operate (for example, by verifying transactions), and in return you receive regular rewards. You can compare this to a savings account at a bank, except that rewards for cryptocurrencies are often quite a bit higher – of course, the risk is different too, since the value of cryptocurrency can fluctuate.
On jup.ag you can stake your SOL cryptocurrencies and receive rewards, and you can also participate in platform governance by staking its own token JUP, which brings additional rewards to those who actively participate in decisions about the platform’s development.
Concrete ways people use jup.ag to earn
Now let’s combine everything written above into practical strategies you can use immediately.
- Finding better exchange rates. Because jup.ag compares dozens of trading venues, every exchange gives you a better rate than on many individual exchanges. With larger amounts, this means a tangible difference that stays in your pocket.
- Gradual investing with DCA. Instead of trying to guess the “right time” to buy, which is nearly impossible even for experienced investors, with the DCA feature you gradually build your portfolio and lower your average entry price.
- Passive income from staking. Instead of letting funds just sit in your wallet, you can stake them and receive regular rewards – this is one of the simplest ways to make your money work for you instead of you working for it.
- Taking advantage of limit orders. If you know the price at which you want to buy a specific cryptocurrency, set a limit order and you don’t have to stare at the screen all day.
- Reducing costs. Lower fees on each transaction mean that with more frequent trading or investing, you keep significantly more money in the long run.
I explain all these strategies in detail with concrete steps in my free e-book – I recommend you download it before making your first transaction.

Monitor Your Portfolio in One Place
One of the things I personally really appreciate about jup.ag is the overview of your entire assets (in English, this is called Net Worth). When you connect your wallet, the platform displays on a single screen how much everything you have in your wallet is worth – regardless of how many different cryptocurrencies you have.
This is useful for two reasons. First, you don’t need to switch between ten tabs or applications to see where you stand. Second, because you have complete visibility in one place, you’ll notice more quickly when it makes sense to rebalance your funds – for example, when one part of your portfolio grows too much compared to the others, and it would make sense to secure part of your profit by exchanging it for a stablecoin.
In addition, you also have quick shortcuts for sending (Send) and depositing (Deposit) funds, which means you often don’t have to leave a single website for basic wallet management.
How jup.ag Complements Other Cryptocurrency Earning Strategies
Jup.ag is not the only tool I use, but it’s often the one that ties multiple steps together. Let’s say you’ve identified an opportunity with a particular token using weekly signals or your own analysis – jup.ag is where you actually capitalize on that opportunity, as it finds the best possible price for your purchase.
The same applies when you want to “lock in” part of your profit. Instead of transferring funds to multiple different exchanges, you simply exchange them back to a stablecoin directly in your wallet, without unnecessary intermediate steps.

Security – Rules You Must Never Overlook
Before I wrap up, I need to dedicate a few lines to security, because this is an area where most beginners make mistakes that cost them dearly.
- Never share your seed phrase. No legitimate website, support team, or “administrator” will ever ask you for it. If someone asks you for it, it’s a scam.
- Always check the website address. Scammers often create nearly identical copies of well-known sites with slightly altered URLs. Bookmark the site so you always click the correct link.
- Start with smaller amounts. When testing a new tool, make a small transaction first to ensure you understand everything before investing a larger amount.
- Don’t rush. No opportunity in the cryptocurrency market is so urgent that you need to make a decision in a panic. Take your time, read, understand, and only then act.
These rules apply not just to jup.ag, but to every tool in the cryptocurrency world. Once you internalize them, you’ll operate in this space far more confidently.
Common Beginner Mistakes on jup.ag
- Excessive “slippage”. If you allow too large a deviation between the expected and actual price during a swap, you can lose part of your funds without realizing it. Always check this setting before confirming.
- Not enough SOL for network fees. Because every transaction on Solana requires a small payment in SOL, make sure you always have at least some SOL in your wallet, otherwise the transaction will fail.
- Swapping to lesser-known tokens. Not every token you see on the platform is a safe investment – some are created solely for the purpose of fraud. Before buying anything unfamiliar, research the project.
- Setting automatic orders without understanding. Before you set a limit order or DCA, make sure you understand exactly what will happen and when.
Frequently Asked Questions About jup.ag
Do I need a lot of money to start using jup.ag? No. You can start with a smaller amount, as fees are low and there’s practically no minimum amount to use it. I recommend starting small and gradually increasing.
Does jup.ag hold my money? No. Jup.ag is what’s called a non-custodial platform, which means your funds remain in your own wallet at all times. The platform simply prepares the transaction, and you confirm it yourself each time.
Do I need tech experience to understand how to use jup.ag? No. Basic cryptocurrency swaps are as simple as online shopping – you select what you’re selling, what you’re buying, and confirm. For more advanced features like DCA and staking, you’ll find all the steps explained in this article (and in my free e-book).
What happens if I make a mistake in a transaction? Transactions on the blockchain are irreversible, so it’s important to double-check every piece of information before confirming. That’s why I recommend making your first transaction with a smaller amount, so you can become familiar with the process.
Is jup.ag only suitable for experienced investors? No, quite the opposite. The interface is designed to be understandable even for complete beginners, as long as you understand the basic terms I’ve explained in this article.
Which wallet should I use with jup.ag? The most widespread is Phantom, as it’s simple to install and supports the Solana network, on which jup.ag operates. There are other compatible wallets as well, but the choice is mainly a matter of personal preference and habit.
Can I exchange cryptocurrencies from other networks on jup.ag, not just from Solana? Jup.ag is primarily focused on the Solana network and tokens that exist on it. If you have funds on another network, you may need to transfer them to Solana first through a specialized network bridging tool before you can exchange them on jup.ag.

Conclusion – Next Steps
Jup.ag is not a magic solution that will bring you wealth overnight – but it is a practical tool that, if you use it thoughtfully and safely, can help you get more out of every exchange or investment than you otherwise would.
Now that you understand what jup.ag is, how to connect your wallet, how to execute a swap, and what advanced features are available to you, it’s time to take the first step – of course, carefully and with a small amount.
