Earning with Hyperliquid

Hyperliquid is one of the platforms I can’t imagine my crypto work without. And when I look at how many Slovenes write to me asking how to start earning with cryptocurrencies, I keep finding that most of them don’t even know a platform like Hyperliquid exists – even though it could make getting started significantly easier.

In this article, I’ll explain everything. From what Hyperliquid actually is, to concrete ways to earn with it – no theory, no complicated explanations.

Before we start: if you’re the type who would rather listen and watch than read, I invite you to my free webinar, where I explain everything visually as well: 👉 Sign up for free

What is Hyperliquid and why is everyone mentioning it now?

Let’s explain from the beginning, because understanding the basics is key to seeing where the opportunity to earn lies.

Hyperliquid is a decentralized crypto exchange – experts call it a DEX (Decentralized Exchange). But it’s not an ordinary DEX platform. While most decentralized exchanges operate slowly and with high fees, Hyperliquid built its own blockchain network from the start, designed specifically for trading – and it shows.

A blockchain is a digital ledger of transactions that is stored on thousands of computers around the world at the same time. It can’t be forged or deleted. Every transaction that takes place is visible to everyone – this ensures transparency.

Here are the key features that set Hyperliquid apart from the competition:

Speed that exceeds expectations. Transactions are completed in 0.2 seconds. Hyperliquid is faster than most centralized exchanges.

No gas fees for trading. On most blockchain platforms, you pay a so-called gas fee – a small charge for every action on the network. With Hyperliquid, the platform covers these trading costs itself, which means lower costs for the trader.

Self-custody of funds. When you trade on a centralized exchange (e.g. Binance), your cryptocurrencies aren’t actually yours – they’re held on the exchange’s servers. If the exchange goes bankrupt or gets hacked, your funds are at risk. On Hyperliquid, your funds are in your wallet at all times.

No one can freeze your account. Since there is no central operator, no one has the authority to freeze your funds.

No KYC for trading. To buy cryptocurrencies with euros you will still need a centralized exchange with a KYC process, but trading on Hyperliquid requires no identity verification – you simply connect with your wallet.

KYC (Know Your Customer) is an identity verification process required by regulated financial institutions. They require a photo of an ID document and proof of address.

Numbers that speak for themselves

Hyperliquid has become a platform with one of the highest revenues among all Layer-1 blockchain networks in the world. It generates an average of several million dollars in revenue per day and has a daily trading volume of around tens of billions of dollars. The HYPE token – the platform’s native cryptocurrency – has grown significantly since it was listed on the market.

These aren’t empty words. They’re proof that a serious community, serious traders, and real demand stand behind the platform.

The HYPE token: The heart of the Hyperliquid platform

To understand earning with Hyperliquid, you need to understand the HYPE token – the cryptocurrency that powers the entire ecosystem.

HYPE is the native token of the Hyperliquid blockchain network. It has three key roles:

Voting (Governance): HYPE token holders vote on key decisions on the platform – new features, fee levels, protocol updates. The more HYPE you have, the greater your influence on the direction of the platform’s development.

Staking and rewards: By locking up HYPE tokens, you contribute to the security of the network and receive rewards in HYPE tokens in return – more on this in detail below.

Fee discounts: HYPE token holders get discounts on trading fees – from 5% at 10 HYPE to as much as 40% at 500,000 HYPE.

HYPE tokenomics: Why it matters for earning

Tokenomics is a term for the structure and distribution of cryptocurrency tokens. Understanding tokenomics is key to assessing a cryptocurrency’s long-term potential.

The total supply of HYPE is 1 billion tokens, distributed as follows:

  • 38.888% is allocated to the community (rewards, airdrops, ecosystem fund)
  • 23.8% is allocated to developers and the team (locked for 1 year, then gradually released)
  • No private investors or venture capital funds

The last point is extremely important. Most crypto projects sell a large share of their tokens to private investors at low prices, and those investors then sell on the open market, artificially pushing the price down. Hyperliquid doesn’t do that. All the value stays with the community.

Earning with Hyperliquid: 5 Concrete Methods

Now let’s get to the heart of it. I’ll describe five ways to earn with Hyperliquid – from the easiest for beginners to those that require more experience.

Method 1: Buying and Holding HYPE Tokens Long Term

Difficulty: ⭐ Beginner | Suitable for: Everyone

This is the simplest strategy. You buy HYPE tokens and hold them – hoping their value will grow over time. In the crypto world, this strategy is called HODL (Hold On for Dear Life – “hold at all costs”).

Why does HYPE have good long-term potential? Because real demand for the token keeps growing. HYPE is used to pay for transactions on the HyperEVM network, for staking, for fee discounts, and for governance. The more the platform grows, the more demand there will be for the HYPE token.

Step by step – how to buy HYPE:

Step 1: Sign up on a centralized exchange – I recommend Binance, Bybit, or KuCoin. They’re all well established, offer English-language support, and have moderate fees.

Step 2: Complete the KYC process (you upload a photo of your ID). This is a legal requirement and a normal part of the process.

Step 3: Deposit euros to the exchange. Most exchanges allow this via bank transfer (SEPA) or a credit or debit card.

Step 4: Find HYPE on the exchange (symbol: HYPE) and buy it. To start, 50–100 EUR is plenty.

Step 5: Transfer your HYPE to your own crypto wallet (MetaMask or similar). Don’t leave it on the exchange, because technically the exchange holds it, not you.

My tip: Use a DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) strategy – invest a fixed amount (e.g., 30 or 50 EUR) every week or month regardless of the current price. This helps you avoid the “I bought at the top” mistake and build wealth over the long term with minimal stress.

Method 2: Staking HYPE Tokens for Passive Income

Difficulty: ⭐⭐ Lower intermediate level | Suitable for: Beginners with a little experience

Staking is my personal favorite among all passive income methods with cryptocurrencies. It’s easy to understand, the process is clear, and the earnings are continuous.

Staking means you lock up your HYPE tokens on the Hyperliquid blockchain network and help ensure the network’s security and operation. In return, the network rewards you with new HYPE tokens. It’s similar to a savings account at a bank – except the interest is significantly higher.

HYPE staking rewards are up to 19% per year (APR/APY), depending on the platform and the staking method.

APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is the annual interest rate without compounding. APY (Annual Percentage Yield) also factors in compound interest – that is, the rewards are automatically reinvested. APY is always slightly higher than APR.

Step by step – how to stake HYPE:

Step 1: Set up the MetaMask crypto wallet. It’s free and works as a browser extension or a mobile app.

Step 2: Buy HYPE on a centralized exchange (described above) and transfer it to your MetaMask wallet.

Step 3: Go to app.hyperliquid.xyz/staking and connect your MetaMask wallet by clicking “Connect Wallet”.

Step 4: Transfer your HYPE tokens to the “Staking Balance” – this is a separate area on the platform, distinct from your spot balance (where you keep cryptocurrencies for trading).

Step 5: Choose a validator. A validator is an entity that technically maintains the operation of the blockchain network and to which you delegate your tokens for management. Look for a validator with a good reputation and a fee between 0% and 2%.

A validator is a computer system that verifies transactions on the blockchain network and ensures its security. It’s like a “supervisor” of the network, receiving a portion of the rewards for its work.

Step 6: Enter the amount of HYPE tokens you want to stake and confirm the transaction.

Step 7: Rewards start coming in automatically. Hyperliquid has automatic reinvesting – your rewards are automatically added to your stake and so grow exponentially (the compound effect).

Important to know: Once you stake HYPE tokens, you can’t withdraw them right away. The “unstaking” process takes 8 days in total (7 days to transfer out of the staking balance + 1 additional day). This is normal and is a security feature of the blockchain network – it’s not a cause for concern.

A practical example of staking earnings:

Say you stake 500 EUR worth of HYPE tokens at 5% APY.

  • Per year you earn: 25 EUR in HYPE tokens
  • Because the rewards are reinvested, after 5 years at the same APY you have: around 638 EUR just from interest on interest
  • At the same time, the value of the HYPE tokens themselves grows – which would increase this amount significantly

Method 3: Actively Trading on Hyperliquid (Perpetual Futures)

Difficulty: ⭐⭐⭐ Intermediate/Advanced level | Suitable for: Those with at least a little experience

Hyperliquid was originally designed for exactly this – a professional crypto trading experience on a decentralized platform. And unlike traditional DEX platforms, which were slow and impractical, Hyperliquid offers an experience comparable to professional centralized exchanges.

Before I explain how to earn, I need to explain some basic concepts.

Perpetual futures (perpetual futures contracts) are crypto instruments that let you “bet” on the direction of a cryptocurrency’s price – without actually buying it. The name “perpetual” means that this contract has no expiration date.

Long position: You open a long when you think the price will rise. You profit when the price goes up. Short position: You open a short when you think the price will fall. You profit when the price goes down.

This is the key advantage over simply buying cryptocurrencies – with perpetual futures, you can profit even in a falling market.

Leverage is the ability to control a larger position with less capital. Hyperliquid offers up to 50x leverage. Example: with 200 EUR and 10x leverage, you control a position worth 2,000 EUR. If the price rises by 5%, you earn 100 EUR (50% on the 200 EUR invested). But be careful – leverage works the same way in both directions: losses are magnified as well.

For beginners, I recommend leverage of 1x to 3x, no more.

Funding rate is a mechanism that aligns the price of the perpetual futures contract with the “real” price of the cryptocurrency (spot price). Every hour, those with long positions pay those with short positions (or vice versa), depending on the balance of demand. This mechanism is also an opportunity to earn – more on that in Method 5.

Spot price (spot price) is the current market price of a cryptocurrency on an exchange.

What types of orders does Hyperliquid support?

Market order: The order is executed immediately at the best available price. You use it when you want to enter or exit quickly.

Limit order: You set the price at which you’re ready to buy or sell. The order waits in the “order book” (order book) until it is filled. As a rule, you pay a lower fee (maker fee: 0.01%).

Stop loss order: Automatically closes your position when the price drops to a certain level. This is a MANDATORY tool for risk management.

Take profit order: Automatically closes a position at a profit when the price reaches a certain level. You use it to protect your earnings without having to watch the screen all the time.

TWAP order (Time-Weighted Average Price): Splits a larger order into smaller parts over time to reduce the impact on the market price. Suitable for larger amounts.

Step by step – how to start trading on Hyperliquid:

Step 1: Open your MetaMask wallet and buy USDC (a stable dollar) on a centralized exchange.

USDC is a stablecoin – a cryptocurrency whose value is always equal to 1 US dollar. It’s ideal for trading because it isn’t volatile.

Step 2: Transfer USDC to Hyperliquid. The platform supports USDC from the Arbitrum network – a “Layer 2” network on Ethereum with low fees. First transfer the USDC to MetaMask, then “bridge” it to Hyperliquid.

Bridging (bridging) means transferring cryptocurrencies from one blockchain network to another. On Hyperliquid, you do this by clicking “Deposit” on the platform.

Step 3: On Hyperliquid, choose the crypto pair you want to trade – e.g., BTC-PERP (Bitcoin perpetual), ETH-PERP, or HYPE-PERP.

Step 4: Set the direction (long or short) and the position size. Set the leverage – to start, I recommend 2x.

Step 5: MAKE SURE to set a stop loss – at least 5-10% below the entry price (for a long) or above the entry price (for a short).

Step 6: Place the order and confirm.

Step 7: Monitor the position and close it when you reach your target profit or when the stop loss automatically protects your capital.

My advice for beginners: Before you start with real money, do at least 2 weeks of simulated trading – you do everything exactly as you would in real life, except you record the results on paper or in Excel and don’t invest real money. This way you understand the mechanisms without financial risk.

Method 4: HLP Vaults – earning without active trading

Difficulty: ⭐⭐ Easier intermediate level | Suitable for: Beginners who don’t want to actively trade themselves

HLP Vault (Hyperliquidity Provider Vault) is one of the most innovative features of the Hyperliquid platform. It’s a shared pool into which you deposit USDC, and the platform automatically uses its funds to provide liquidity and for market making.

Market making is the process in which someone simultaneously places buy and sell orders for a cryptocurrency with a small difference in price (spread). The market maker earns the difference between the buy and sell price. This is demanding and requires capital – the HLP Vault does it automatically for you.

How do you earn? As a depositor in the HLP Vault, you share in the profit the vault generates through market making, liquidations, and trading fees. Profit (or loss) is shared proportionally to the share you contributed.

Step by step – how to deposit into the HLP Vault:

Step 1: On the Hyperliquid platform, go to the “Vaults” tab.

Step 2: Select the HLP Vault (the protocol-managed vault).

Step 3: Review the vault’s historical performance – the platform shows profit/loss over time.

Step 4: Click “Deposit” and enter the amount of USDC you want to deposit. The minimum deposit is 100 USDC.

Step 5: Confirm the transaction and watch your share grow.

Warning: HLP Vaults are not risk-free. The vault trades with leverage and can post losses in turbulent market conditions. Always check the historical performance before you deposit. Don’t treat the vault as a “guaranteed” source of passive income.

In addition to the protocol-managed HLP Vault, there are also community vaults – private, experienced traders manage their depositors’ capital and receive a certain percentage of the profits for doing so. Before you deposit into any community vault, thoroughly check the manager’s track record and reputation.

Method 5: Funding Rate Strategy (an Advanced Passive Earning Technique)

Difficulty: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Advanced level | Best for: Those with trading experience

This is a technique known only to experienced crypto traders – but I’m mentioning it because Hyperliquid is particularly well suited to carrying out this strategy.

Funding rate is the hourly payment between long and short traders on the perpetual futures market. When the market is in a bullish mood (bullish) and there are far more long than short positions, long traders pay short traders. In a bearish market (bearish), it’s the other way around.

The delta-neutral strategy takes advantage of the funding rate without exposure to price risk. It works like this:

You buy HYPE tokens on the spot market (this is your “long” exposure). At the same time, you open a short position of equal value on perpetual futures (this is your “short” exposure). Because the positions cancel each other out, you’re not exposed to price movements. You earn the funding rate that you receive for the short position when the market is in a bullish phase.

This strategy is suited to advanced traders who understand how the funding rate works and when it’s favorable. I recommend tackling it only after you’ve gained experience with basic trading.

A Deeper Look: How the Hyperliquid Platform Actually Works

Understanding how the platform works behind the scenes helps you make better decisions.

Order Book: The Heart of the Platform

Hyperliquid operates on the principle of an on-chain order book – an order book that is recorded entirely on the blockchain. This is a technological leap that sets Hyperliquid apart from most DEX platforms.

Most DEXs operate with an AMM (Automated Market Maker) model – an algorithm automatically determines the price based on the ratio of two cryptocurrencies in a liquidity pool. This model is often slower and less efficient.

An order book works the same way as on centralized exchanges: buyers place bids at a certain price, and sellers place asks at a certain price. When they match, the trade is executed. The advantage? Transparency, speed, and better prices for traders.

HyperCore and HyperEVM: A Two-Layer Architecture

Hyperliquid has two layers:

HyperCore is the ultra-fast trading layer. This is where all transactions on the perpetual and spot markets take place. It is capable of processing hundreds of thousands of transactions per second.

HyperEVM is the “smart contract” layer – compatible with the Ethereum ecosystem. Developers build decentralized applications, tokens, and DeFi protocols on it. Thanks to HyperEVM, Hyperliquid has grown from “just an exchange” into a complete DeFi ecosystem.

A smart contract (smart contract) is a program that runs automatically on a blockchain without an intermediary. Once the conditions are met, the contract executes automatically – no banks, no lawyers, no need to trust a third party.

Security on Hyperliquid: How to Protect Your Crypto Assets

When you talk about earning with cryptocurrencies, you absolutely have to talk about security too. Because in the crypto world, there’s no bank that will give you your money back if you lose it or it gets stolen.

Rule 1: Store your seed phrase only physically

A seed phrase is a string of 12 or 24 random words that serves as your “super password” – whoever has it has access to all of your funds. Never photograph it, email it, or store it in apps or the cloud. Write it down by hand on paper and keep it in a safe place.

Rule 2: Turn on 2FA (two-factor authentication)

On every platform you use (exchange, MetaMask, email), turn on 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication). This means that in addition to your password, you also enter a code from the Google Authenticator app. Without the 2FA code, no one can access your account, even if they know the password.

Rule 3: Always check the website address

Phishing sites (fake copies of official websites) are the most common way theft happens in the crypto world. Always type the URL yourself or keep it saved in your bookmarks. The official Hyperliquid site is: app.hyperliquid.xyz

Rule 4: Don’t keep too much on the platform

On the Hyperliquid platform, keep only as much USDC as you actively need for trading. Store the rest in your MetaMask or hardware wallet.

A hardware wallet is a physical device (e.g., Ledger) that stores your private keys offline. It is the most secure form of cryptocurrency storage – hackers can’t access a device that isn’t connected to the internet.

Rule 5: Never share your seed phrase with anyone

No legitimate platform, customer support team, or expert will ever ask for your seed phrase. Anyone who asks you for your seed phrase is a scammer.

Comparison: Hyperliquid vs. Centralized Exchanges (Binance, Bybit)

FeatureHyperliquid (DEX)Binance/Bybit (CEX)
Control over fundsYour walletThe exchange holds your funds
KYC requirementNot required for tradingMandatory
Gas feesNone for tradesDepends on the network
Fees0.01% maker / 0.035% taker0.01–0.1% depending on tier
Hack riskLower (your funds, your wallet)Higher (example: Bybit lost $1.3 billion)
Transaction speed0.2 secondsFast, but depends on the exchange
Buying with eurosNo (you need a CEX for fiat)Yes
Staking discountsUp to 40% for HYPE stakingDepends on the exchange

My conclusion: I recommend a combination of both. Use a centralized exchange (Binance, Bybit, KuCoin) to buy crypto with euros and to hold fiat currency. Use Hyperliquid for active trading, HYPE staking, and HLP Vaults.

Mistakes Beginners Make on Hyperliquid

Mistake 1: Jumping in with high leverage and no experience

Hyperliquid offers up to 50x leverage. That sounds tempting – with 200 EUR you control a position worth 10,000 EUR. But a 2% price move in the opposite direction means liquidation. Start with 1x or 2x and increase gradually as you gain experience.

Liquidation means the platform automatically closes your position when the loss reaches the value of your posted collateral. The capital is lost.

Mistake 2: Trading without a stop loss

Without a stop loss, you risk unlimited losses if the market turns against you. Every open position on Hyperliquid must have a stop loss set. No exceptions.

Mistake 3: Investing money you urgently need

The crypto market is volatile – prices can change by 10%, 20%, or even 50% in a single day. Never invest money you need for daily living, rent, or urgent expenses.

Mistake 4: Ignoring the funding rate on longer-held positions

When you have an open long position and market sentiment is bullish, you pay the funding rate to short traders every hour. If the funding rate is high and the position sits idle, those fees gradually “eat” your profit. Always check the funding rate before opening a longer-term position.

Mistake 5: Blindly following advice on social media

Crypto groups on Telegram, Discord, and TikTok are full of “influencers” posting “100% reliable signals.” Most of these predictions are baseless or even deliberately misleading. Always do your own analysis (DYOR – Do Your Own Research).

Step by Step: Your Action Plan for Getting Started with Hyperliquid

Week 1 – Lay the groundwork: Create a MetaMask wallet. Write down your seed phrase on paper. Sign up on Binance or Bybit. Complete KYC. Deposit 50–100 EUR and buy HYPE and USDC.

Week 2 – Start staking: Transfer HYPE to MetaMask. Connect to Hyperliquid. Stake your HYPE tokens and watch for your first rewards.

Weeks 3–4 – Get to know the trading interface: With a small amount (20–30 EUR in USDC), open your first position with 1x leverage. Always set a stop loss. Record every trade and analysis.

Month 2 onward – Build a strategy: Gradually increase your knowledge and positions. Study the funding rate. Consider a deposit into the HLP Vault.
