How to Make Money from Home: 6 Proven Ways to Earn Online.

I’m going to show you how to make money from home – with no special experience, no office, and no boss. In this article, I’ll show you 6 concrete methods for earning money from home online that you can start right away.

Earning money from home means any form of income you generate from your home environment via the internet – without a physical workplace and without a fixed schedule.

Read to the end, because for each method I also explain where to start, how long it takes to see your first results, and how much you can realistically earn.

Why Are More and More Slovenes Looking to Make Money from Home?

The cost of living is rising, but wages aren’t keeping up. That’s why more and more Slovenes are looking for an additional source of income or even a complete replacement for a traditional job. Today the internet is accessible to everyone – and with it, the possibility of earning money from home, which twenty years ago was within reach of only a handful of people.

On Google, phrases such as “zaslužek od doma” (earning money from home), “kako zaslužiti na internetu” (how to make money online), and “delo od doma” (work from home) are searched in Slovenian every month – with tens of thousands of searches per month combined. The demand is real and grows every year.

The good news: online, you don’t compete only locally. You can charge customers anywhere in the world.

What Do You Need to Get Started?

Before we get to the methods, let me explain what you really need – and what you don’t:

  • A computer or laptop – it doesn’t have to be the latest model.
  • A stable internet connection
  • An email address – ideally with your own name or brand.
  • 1–2 hours of free time per day – at least at the beginning.
  • Willingness to learn – this is the only “degree” you need.

You don’t need capital, an office, or special certifications. The ones who succeed are the ones who actually get started.

6 Proven Ways to Make Money from Home Online

1. Amazon – Selling Products on the Largest Online Marketplace

Amazon is the largest online store in the world, with millions of customers every day. As an Amazon seller, you can sell physical or digital products without your own online store – Amazon provides the platform, the payment system, and access to a huge audience.

There are two main ways to sell on Amazon:

  • FBA – Fulfillment by Amazon (i.e., fulfillment = order fulfillment): You send your products to Amazon’s warehouse. Amazon then packs, ships, and handles customers on its own. You just source the inventory and take care of advertising.
  • FBM – Fulfillment by Merchant: You sell through Amazon but ship the products yourself. Lower costs, but more work.

How do you get started?

Create an Amazon Seller account (the Individual plan is free, while Professional costs $39.99/month).

Find a product with good demand and low competition – use a tool like Helium 10 for this.

Find a manufacturer or supplier on Alibaba.com from whom you can order larger quantities of products directly from China at wholesale prices.

Send your inventory to Amazon’s warehouse and set up your ads.

Realistic earnings: Beginners earn between €500 and €1,500 per month after 3–4 months.

My tip: Don’t start with products that are already oversaturated (electronics, phone cases). Look for niches with less competition – for example, specific kitchen gadgets or hobby tools.

2. Cryptocurrencies – Digital Money That Works for You

Cryptocurrencies (cryptocurrency) are digital currencies that run on blockchain technology. A blockchain is like a public ledger of transactions that is decentralized – no government or bank controls it.

How can you make money with cryptocurrencies from home? There are several ways:

  • Trading: You buy a cryptocurrency at a lower price and sell it at a higher one. It requires knowledge, practice, and discipline. Suitable for those who like to learn and follow the market.
  • Staking: You lock up your crypto assets in the network and receive rewards in return – similar to interest on a bank account, but often much higher.
  • DeFi (decentralized finance): DeFi platforms let you lend cryptocurrencies or provide liquidity, and in return you receive interest or rewards.

Where to start? I recommend signing up on a trusted crypto exchange – Binance.

Important: Cryptocurrencies are a volatile market – prices change quickly and sharply. Never invest money you can’t afford to lose. Start with small amounts and build your knowledge first.

3. Etsy – Selling Handmade and Digital Products

Etsy is an online marketplace specializing in handmade, vintage, and digital products. It has millions of active buyers worldwide and is an ideal platform for anyone with a creative talent or skill that they can turn into a digital product.

What sells on Etsy? Two categories are especially interesting for earning money from home:

  • Physical handmade products: jewelry, candles, ceramics, clothing, home décor, personalized gifts.
  • Digital products: printable posters, Excel calculators, Canva templates, etc. – you create them once and sell them many times without any extra work.

Printable posters – decorative or motivational posters that the buyer downloads and prints at home or at a print shop.

Excel calculators – ready-made spreadsheets for calculating personal finances, budgets, investments, service pricing, business expenses, and more.

Canva templates – pre-designed templates for social media posts, résumés, presentations, flyers, and other marketing materials that the buyer can easily customize to their needs.

How do you get started?

Open a free Etsy account (signing up takes a few minutes).

Create your Etsy shop.

Create digital products – for example, in Canva (a free design tool) or Excel.

Upload your products with good photos and descriptions that include the keywords buyers search for.

Promote them on Pinterest or TikTok for free traffic.

Realistic earnings: Sellers of digital products on Etsy earn between €300 and €2,000 per month. Those with a larger selection and well-optimized listings exceed €5,000 per month.

4. Freelancing – Fiverr and Upwork: Sell Your Skills to the World

Freelancing means that as an independent worker (freelancer), you provide services to various clients around the world. You don’t have a single employer – you have multiple clients, and you set your own schedule, prices, and terms of work.

Which skills sell well? Here is a list of services in high demand:

  • Writing and translating texts (blogs, SEO content)
  • Graphic design (logos, business cards, ads, packaging)
  • Video editing for YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram
  • Social media management (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
  • Website SEO optimization
  • Programming and web development
  • Virtual assistance (emails, scheduling, data entry, Excel)
  • Voiceovers and podcast production

The two biggest freelancing platforms:

Fiverr.com – Fiverr is a name derived from “five dollars,” because services originally cost $5. Today, prices range from $5 to thousands of dollars. On Fiverr, you create a profile and post your services (called gigs). Clients come to you and place orders. It’s ideal for beginners because you don’t need to actively look for clients.

Upwork.com – A larger and more professional platform. On Upwork, clients post a project and you submit a proposal. It’s suitable for higher prices and long-term collaboration. A typical Upwork project is worth €100–€5,000.

How do you get started on Fiverr?

Create a free account on Fiverr.com.

Choose one service to offer (start with one gig, not ten).

Write a clear description: what you offer, how quickly you deliver, and what the client receives.

Add samples of your work (a portfolio) – without it, it’s hard to land your first clients.

Set a competitive starting price (lower at first, so you can get your first reviews).

Realistic earnings: Beginners on Fiverr earn €200–€500 per month working 2–3 hours a day. Experienced freelancers on Upwork earn several thousand euros per month.

My advice: Don’t try to compete on price at the start. Compete on quality and delivery speed. Your first reviews are crucial – without reviews, it’s hard to get clients.

5. Dropshipping – An Online Store Without Inventory or Shipping

Dropshipping is an online retail business model in which you, as the seller, never buy or store physical goods. How does it work? When a customer orders a product from your online store, the order is automatically passed to the supplier, who ships the goods directly to the customer. You earn the difference between the supplier’s price and your selling price – without ever touching a package.

Example: You find travel suitcases on Aliexpress for €22. In your online store, you sell them for €59. When a customer places an order, the supplier ships directly to them. Your profit = e.g. €10  per item sold after advertising, with no inventory and no shipping.

How do you get started?

Create an online store – Shopify is the easiest platform. WordPress with WooCommerce is a free alternative.

Choose a niche – don’t sell everything at once. Specialize: e.g. running gear, home decor, pet accessories.

Find suppliers – e.g. Aliexpress.

Set up Facebook ads to attract customers.

Realistic earnings: Dropshipping requires an initial investment in ads (€50–200). Successful dropshippers earn several thousand euros per month. The key factors are the right product and a good marketing strategy.

My tip: Most beginners test 3–5 products before finding a “winner” – that is, a product that sells well. Don’t give up after the first failure.

6. Affiliate Marketing – Earn with Recommendations Without Your Own Products

Affiliate marketing (affiliate marketing) is a method in which you earn a commission for recommending other people’s products or services. You don’t need your own products, your own inventory, or your own customers. All you need is your unique affiliate link and a channel to distribute it (blog, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok).

How does it work? You sign up for a company’s affiliate program. You get a unique trackable link. When someone clicks your link and makes a purchase, the company pays you a commission – usually 3–50% of the sale value.

Example: You write an article called “The Best Tools for Making Money Online.” In the article, you include affiliate links to tools such as Shopify or Fiverr. When a reader clicks and buys a subscription, you earn a commission.

Where do you sign up?

  • Amazon Associates – the most popular program. Commission on all Amazon products.
  • Impact.com – a premium platform with major brands.
  • Companies’ direct programs – Shopify, Fiverr, Canva, NordVPN, and many others have their own affiliate programs.

How do you get started?

Choose a niche – the topic you’ll create content about (sports, technology, health, travel…).

Create a content channel – a blog, YouTube channel, Instagram, or TikTok profile.

Sign up for an affiliate program that matches your niche.

Create content that solves your readers’ problems, and naturally include affiliate links in it.

Optimize your content for Google (SEO) or build followers on social media.

Realistic earnings: Beginners earn €50–300 per month. Experienced affiliate marketers earn €1,000–10,000 per month – and the income is often passive, meaning it comes in without active work.

The most important tip: Only recommend what you know yourself and believe in. Readers can sense insincerity, and losing their trust means losing income.

5 Common Beginner Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

You switch methods too quickly. You try Amazon for a week, then Etsy, then affiliate. There are no results because every system takes time. Choose one method and give it at least 3 months.

You expect instant income. The internet isn’t a lottery. Most digital entrepreneurs need 3–6 months for their first revenue. Stay persistent.

You don’t invest in knowledge. Earning from home requires learning. Free YouTube videos, e-books, webinars – all of it is accessible and essential.

You work without a clear plan. Set a specific goal each week: “This week I’ll create three Etsy listings” or “This week I’ll apply to five Upwork projects.”

You wait for the perfect moment. There isn’t one. Start today with the knowledge you have.

Free Tools for Earning from Home

  • Canva.com – designing graphics, Etsy products, YouTube thumbnails.
  • Google Keyword Planner – find out what people search for on Google. Essential for blog and affiliate content.
  • ChatGPT – helps with writing descriptions, emails, and marketing copy.
  • CapCut – a video editor for TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Realistic Timeline: When Can You Expect Your First Results?

  • Weeks 1–4: Learning and setup. You create accounts, learn the basics, and create your first content or listings.
  • Months 2–3: First customers and sales. Earnings between €500 and €1,000 per month.
  • Month 4: Growth. With optimization and consistency, earnings grow to €1,500 per month.
  • Months 5–12: With consistent work, €2,000 per month is an achievable goal for most methods.

The key: consistency. People who work every day – even if it’s just an hour or two – beat those who work intensely for a week and then disappear.
